Introduction
Chainlog ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the Chainlog app uses and how it is handled. Chainlog does not require an account, and we do not run servers that store your personal data.
Data Stored On Your Device
Bikes, components and ride logs
The bikes, components, service history, rides and saved tyre pressure logs you enter are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData. They are not sent to us or to any third party.
Bike photos
If you choose a photo for a bike, it is stored in the app on your device only. Chainlog only accesses the photo you select.
Settings and notifications
Your unit preference, notification choices and saved weather locations are stored on your device.
Location and Weather
If you allow it, Chainlog uses your device location (only while the app is in use) to show local weather and a cycling suitability score. You can also search for a location by name instead.
To retrieve a forecast, your approximate coordinates are sent to Apple WeatherKit or, as a fallback, to the Open-Meteo weather service. Location is not linked to any identity, is not used for tracking or advertising, and is not stored by us. See Apple Weather legal attribution and Open-Meteo terms.
Notifications
Chainlog can send local notifications for component wear or service reminders and, if you opt in, a "best day to ride" alert. These are scheduled on your device. You can change them at any time in Chainlog Settings or iOS Settings.
What We Do Not Do
- We do not collect analytics or crash data.
- We do not use advertising or tracking identifiers.
- We do not sell or share personal data.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your data lives on your device, you control it. Deleting the app removes all Chainlog data stored on the device. You can edit or delete individual bikes, components, rides and logs inside the app.
Children
Chainlog is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
