Your data stays in your own iCloud account

Brian ("the app") is developed by Very Good Studio ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information Brian accesses or stores, and how it's used. We built Brian to keep your pets' information private and under your control — we do not run a server that stores your personal data, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.

Account & sign-in

If you create an account to use Brian, your credentials are stored securely in your device's Keychain. We do not transmit or store your password on any server we control.

iCloud sync & sharing

Brian uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your pet profiles, health records, and reminders across your own devices, and to let you share a pet's profile with collaborators (e.g. a partner, family member, or dog walker) via a Care Mode link.

  • Storage: this data is stored in your personal iCloud account (or shared CloudKit zones with people you invite) — it is governed by Apple's iCloud terms and is not stored on a Very Good Studio server.
  • Sharing: data is only shared with collaborators you explicitly invite. You can revoke access to a shared pet at any time from within the app.

Information you provide

  • Pet profiles: name, species, breed, date of birth, weight, photos, and notes you choose to add.
  • Health records: medications, vet visits, and reminders you create.
  • Vet documents: photos or scans you capture with the camera, or import from your Photos library or Files/Documents, so you can keep records alongside your pet's profile.
  • Client pets (Pro tier): if you use Brian's professional tools (e.g. as a dog walker or sitter), the client pet profiles you add are stored the same way as your own pets' data, under your account and iCloud storage.

Device permissions

Brian will ask permission before accessing the following, and each is used only for the feature described:

  • Camera: to scan and save photos of vet documents.
  • Photo Library: to attach existing pet photos, and to save photos you take in the app back to your library.
  • Calendar: to add reminders and appointments you create in Brian to your device calendar.
  • Location (when in use): to help you find nearby dog parks, vets, groomers, and pet stores in the Discover tab. Your location is used on-device for this search and is not stored by us or shared with third parties.
  • Files/Documents: to let you import or export vet documents you choose to attach.

You can review or change any of these permissions at any time in your device's Settings app.

Subscriptions & payment

Brian offers optional Premium and Pro subscriptions, purchased through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. All payment details are handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store your card information. We only receive confirmation of your subscription status/tier so the app can unlock the relevant features.

What we don't do

  • We do not run advertising or analytics SDKs that track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not have server-side access to your pet or health data stored in your iCloud account.

Data retention & deletion

Your data is retained for as long as you keep it in the app and your iCloud account. You can delete individual pets, records, or your entire account at any time from within Brian's Settings. Deleting a pet or your account removes the associated data from your iCloud storage; shared data previously synced to a collaborator's device may persist on their device until they also remove it.

Children's privacy

Brian is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Brian's features evolve. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date.
